Open New chat and choose Claude. CoAnimator checks for an existing Claude Code installation and offers the appropriate setup. You can use installed Claude Code, let CoAnimator download it, or connect with an Anthropic API key.

Use installed Claude Code

When CoAnimator finds Claude Code on your computer, Use installed Claude Code reuses that installation. There is no additional download. Claude Code asks you to sign in if needed.

Download and connect

Download and connect downloads Anthropic's official native Claude Code executable into CoAnimator, then opens Claude Code's browser sign-in. The first download is about 300 MB. No separate manual CLI or Node.js installation is needed.

This connection runs Anthropic's Claude Code agent inside CoAnimator's chat. CoAnimator verifies the download before using it. The executable is downloaded during setup; it is not included in the CoAnimator installer.

The managed copy has its own sign-in and configuration. It does not copy credentials or global settings from an existing Claude installation. You can choose this separate connection even when an installed copy is available. Use the installed route to reuse your existing setup.

You can cancel or retry setup and reopen the sign-in page. Once connected, choose a model offered by the connection and start a chat. Availability depends on the account and runtime, so use the live model list rather than a fixed model name.

Use an API key instead

Use an API key instead · billed separately connects CoAnimator's own agent to the Anthropic API. This route uses an API key and separate API billing, rather than the account connected through Claude Code.

CoAnimator checks model access before saving the key. That check does not confirm available credits or guarantee that a generation request will succeed. Choose a model available to that API connection.

Skills and project context

CoAnimator provides project context and app-local guidance. The optional system skill installer teaches external Claude Code and Codex sessions how to use coa; it does not install an agent or connect an account.
